National Energy Bill Relief Package 2023-2024

The Australian government is partnering with state and territory governments to provide up to $3 billion in electricity bill relief for eligible households and small businesses.

Eligible Residential Customer:

If you have an existing concession and are receiving rebates on your energy bills, there is nothing else you need to do. If your not seeing your regular concession, make sure you have completed our online concession form.

  • Customers already receiving an existing energy concession in their state. This includes Pensioner Concession Cards, Health Care Cards and DVA Gold Cards
  • All households in Queensland with an active electricity account


For customers who don’t have a concession

If you don’t receive a concession, you may still be eligible for the National Energy Relief rebate if you:

  • Have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Receive Family Tax Benefits A and B
  • Receive a Carer Allowance

Services Australia or the Department of Veterans' Affairs will contact you to tell you how to apply.

Eligible SMALL BUSINESS Customer:

  • Must be on a separately metered business tariff
  • With an annual electricity consumption less than the threshold.

How payments will be made

We're currently working with the state governments on exactly how and when the rebates will be applied, but we know they'll be paid to eligible customers directly onto their electricity accounts. First payments will be made in instalments starting around July or August 2023 – timing will differ between states and territories and will depend on when you receive your bill.

What’s available in your state

Queensland

  • $700 for vulnerable households who receive the existing $372 QLD electricity rebate (total $1,072).
  • $550 for all other households with an active electricity account.
  • $650 for eligible small businesses (energy consumption less than 100 MWh).

South Australia

  • $500 for eligible households, in addition to the SA energy concession.
  • $650 for eligible businesses (energy consumption less than 160 MWh).

New South Wales

  • $500 for eligible households, in addition to existing NSW energy rebates.
  • $650 for eligible small businesses (energy consumption less than 100 MWh).

Australian Capital Territory

  • $175 for eligible households, in addition to the ACT utilities concession.
  • $325 for eligible small businesses (energy consumption less than 100 MWh).
  • Plus an estimated savings of $152 for households and $624 for small businesses with average electricity use by reducing electricity bills through the government’s large-scale feed-in tariff scheme (savings will vary depending on electricity consumption).

Victoria

  • $250 for eligible households, in addition to the VIC electricity concession.
  • $325 for eligible small businesses (energy consumption less than 40 MWh).
  • Plus $250 direct payment to all households by applying for the Power Saving Bonus payment.

Tasmania

  • $250 for eligible households each year in 2023-24 and 2024-25 in addition to any eligible Tasmanian concession.
  • $325 for eligible small businesses (energy consumption less than 150 MWh).
