Metering Works – Additional Fees and Charges

Electricity meters are critical to ensuring accurate billing and safe energy supply to your property. From time to time, you may need work done on your meter—whether it’s installing a new one, upgrading an existing setup, or removing a meter entirely.

These types of services sometimes involve more than just replacing equipment. Additional technical work may be required to meet safety standards, ensure compliance with local regulations, or resolve issues identified on-site. When that happens, extra fees may apply.

Additional Service Work Charges

When arranging changes to your electricity meter—such as installation, removal or upgrades—some extra work may be required to ensure the site is safe and meets regulatory standards. These tasks are carried out by our authorised Metering Service Providers, and any associated fees are passed on to you.

Wasted Site Visit Charges

Sometimes, a technician may be unable to complete scheduled metering work due to conditions at the property. When this happens, a Wasted Site Visit Charge may be passed through to cover the cost of the unsuccessful visit.

Common reasons a visit might be deemed unsuccessful include:

  • The technician could not access the electricity meter.
  • The environment was unsafe for work—such as unresolved asbestos risks.
  • The meter board or wiring on the property was found to be faulty or non-compliant.
  • Evidence of tampering was detected on the meter.
  • The meter could not be safely isolated due to a shared supply connection.
  • The customer cancelled the appointment at short notice.
  • Physical issues with the meter board prevented the work from proceeding.
  • The technician was unable to reach the customer on arrival.
  • The customer refused the metering work once on site.

We recommend ensuring the site is safe, accessible, and compliant ahead of your scheduled appointment to avoid this fee.
